TCM This Week BOGIE!

Wednesday's got some great stuff:
THE ASPHALT JUNGLE (1950) is on Wed at 6pm, it features a very young Marilyn Monroe but its an exciting crime drama lacking some noir elements but excellent nonetheless.

REBECCA (1940) is on at 1030pm, Hithcock's first American film is still a standout.

At 1am you have NOTORIOUS (1946) which is Cary Grant as a thinking man's James Bond-- outstanding battle against Nazi's in a post WWII South America.

At 3am is CASABLANCA (1942) which is the second greatest movie of all time-- and sometimes the first-- depends on my mood.  Play it Sam!  Play it!

At 5am is ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT (1942) Bogie stars in this one as a good natured underworld figure who stands up against a bunch of Nazi Spies in WWII New York-- I love this movie-- one of my all time favorites and the MUST C PIC PICK OF THE WEEK!

DONOVAN's BRAIN is on Thursday at 10am-- it's an odd little horror film from 1953 but it's about brain transplants and its been remade several times which means its pretty good.

THE BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN (1956) is on at 1245pm and it's the MUST C PIC PICK OF THE WEEK for me because I've never seen it but it sounds wild.  It's a mix of wester and monster on the loose with a story by Willis O'Brien (King Kong).

But FRIDAY is the schizzle:
At 8pm is THE LEOPARD MAN (1943) which is a werewolf story for people who like style.  This is part of the Val Lewton series of horror films that utilized noir elements and great camera work.  This one is a WINNER!
At 11pm is MURDER MY SWEET (1944) which is a great version of the Raymond Chandler story featuring Dick Powell as Philip Marlowe.  At 1am Bogie takes his turn as Marlowe in THE BIG SLEEP (1946) which, if you know me, you know I LOVE this movie.
STRANGERS ON A TRAIN (1951) is on at 5am-- and that's an underrated Hitchcock film-- if that's possible.

Saturday at 9am is MAD MONSTER PARTY (1967)-- if you grew up loving the animated puppet films like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town-- you'll dig this one about Dracula throwing a party and inviting all the old monsters to attend.  It's got Phyllis Diller as one of the characters and it's a bit on the groanie side but watch it it's fun.

THE FALCON IN HOLLYWOOD (1944) follows at 1045am and that's a solid entry in a solid series.

At 6pm is THE THIRD MAN (1949) with Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles-- why its not The Essentials this week is beyond me, but it's a classic.
