The Day the Franchise Died...

Star Wars was a really really good movie.  Empire might have been better.  The Day George Lucas decided to abandon his plan to feature a planet of Wookies, a planet of seven foot tall ape like creatures and instead go with cute teddy bears because they would be easier to sell toys of is the day he killed the franchise.  Killed his artistic vision with visions of toy sales.

Although come to think of it, I saw the Star Wars Holiday Special, which features Christmas with Chewbacca and his Wookie family along with Bea Arthur and it was an absolute nightmare.

Some things are best left alone, and in my world, the series ended after Empire.
