In the 70s, Comic Book Characters talked to themselves

Today's comic book creators would never even think to have narrative dialogue on a comic book cover, nor would any self respecting editor but that was not the case in the era of disco and Jimmy Carter.

I'm not gonna lie-- I would have grabbed this off the stands in a second-- Doc Ock strangling Spidey while the Ghost of Hammerhead is chasing after Aunt May??  How could I not plunk down my 25c-- these were 25c not 30 as the cover shows.

There's a funky kind of nostalgia to this kind of comic book cover, and it's often considered the example when people refer to comic book writing as being a negative.
